GOD PROVIDES
Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
6:27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 6:28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
6:29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of this.
6:30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
6:31 So do not worry, saying,'What shall we eat?' or ' What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?
6:32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Worry, worry, worry. Worry is a sin. Anything our LORD Jesus tells us not to do is a sin if we indulge in it. We worry about many things and for many reasons. So, what can we do? We can take a good long look at nature, just as our LORD tells us to do in verse 26 of the sixth chapter of the book of Matthew. He says, look at the birds in the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Then, our LORD reminds us that we are much more valuable than birds. Worry will not add a single hour to our life. In fact, it may shorten our life. He asks, "And why do you worry about clothes?" Perhaps it was not just worrying about clothes, but the quality of the clothes, or in our day, the brand. Then he compares clothes, even the ones Solomon, the richest man of his day wore, to nature. "See how the lillies of the field grow. They neither labor or spin." And try as they might have, Solomon's tailors never matched nature for its beauty. Even common grass, which nowadays we try to keep closely cropped to the ground continues growing everyday. If he takes care of something as common as grass, surely he will take care of us in our everyday lives. He provides our needs because he, our LORD, knows we need them; food, drink, and clothes. There is a requirement from us. We must not live like godless pagans and strive to care for ourselves without our LORD's help. We must seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness. In fact, seeking the kingdom and his righteousness, is placing our LORD in the center of our life and seeking his gift of free salvation which redeems our sinful souls and cleanses us of all unrighteousness. Then we become his children, and good fathers take care of their children. Our LORD is a good Father, a good Provider, but we have to seek him as a child seeks his father.
