CRUCIFIXION part 4
Jesus Comforts his Disciples
There is very little time left before the Lord is to leave the disciples and die on the cross. He is anxious for their well-being. So, he tries to comfort them, though; they still do not grasp all the concept themselves. They do not really think that Jesus is going to die on a cross, because Jesus is not a criminal. Only criminals were crucified by the Romans. They had been doing it for years and were to continue doing so after the crucifixon of Jesus. They did not even know that Judas was to sell him to the High Priests, whom Jesus called a brood of Vipers, that very night. He would bring the soliders to arrest Jesus where Judas would mark him by planting the 'Judas Kiss' on his cheek. They were like guests at a party, which in fact the Passover Feast was. They heard bits of conversations and a word here and a word there, but they were not really listening to Jesus. So the hour caught them later not quite ready. In a way, it was better for them, otherwise; they may have wanted to plan a counter attack against the enemy which would have been the wrong thing to do.
John 14:1-4 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

Jesus the Way to the Father
John 14:5-7 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so show us the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
Jesus is telling them, I am God the Father, you have seen me, known me, it is I. Yet Philip asks a question. Also, I used to read these verses and my thick head could not wrap around the thought, Jesus is God. It is other worldly stuff, too much for human minds to grasp. only the Spirit can help us come to terms with the truth of Jesus' statement.
John 14:8-11 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." Jesus answered:"Don't you know me , Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'show us the Father'? Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.
It takes God to circumvent natural laws to make miracles happen. We can also do it, but; we can only do it in faith in the power of God.
John 14:12-14 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it.
Wow! We have an "in" with the Lord of heaven. If we ask in faith and in the will of God, Jesus is ready to answer our prayers. The verse does not mention the will of God, but; how else can Jesus answer a prayer or petition of ours, and bring glory to God's name, unless the request is in the will of God. He is ready to do as we ask, he said so!
