CRUCIFIXION part 15
THE DEATH OF JESUS
Many things happened as Jesus was dying on the cross. There was a period of darkness, at six in the morning till nine all over the land. Now, around the ninth hour, Jesus cried out to his Father. I believe he was in agony, because during those hours of darkness, he was covered in the sins of every human creature who had ever walked the earth, and the sins of the ones present then, and those who were to come, us. Jesus cried out to his Abba Father, because he was completely alone at that time because God could not look on him, because God cannot look on sin. Thus, we have to be covered by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus, who takes away the sins of the world, to be looked on by our Abba Father. Peter says in l Peter 3:18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous (Jesus)for the unrighteous (unsaved sinners), to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Holy Spirit, 3:19 through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison (Hell) 3:20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. Jesus did not leave anyone out. What were the results of the preaching. He knows. Hebrews 7:27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not have to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. The high priests had to cleanse themselves of sin before entering the Holy of Holies and offering sacrifices to our LORD, or they would pay the penalty of death. The high priest had to have a rope tied to one leg in case he died behind the curtain because he had not cleanse himself completely of sin, to pull him out after he died. It was and is serious business, the sin of the soul to our GOD. There was a curtain which separated the Holy of Holies from the people. Only the high priests could go back there. When Jesus died this curtain tore in half, making the way possible to approach our Abba Father without fear, as long as we claim the blood of Jesus as our only covering for our sins in the presence of our Father God. In other words, we have to believe that only the sacrifice of our LORD Jesus Christ on the cross and the blood he shed are able to take away our sin, and make us Holy and pure for our Abba Father to look on us as his children. There is no other way.
Matthew 27:45 From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.
27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, Lama sabachthani?"--which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
27:47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, "He's calling Elijah."
27:48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink.
27:49 The rest said, "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to save him."
27:50 And when Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
27:51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks spilt.
27:52 The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.
27:53 They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' ressurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
27:54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that happened, they were terrified, and explained, "Surely he was the Son of God!"
27:55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs.
27:56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons.
Mary his mother was right at the cross as we learned from the book of John. It is in the book of Luke that we see women following him an crying and wailing.
He tells them, Luke 23:29 For the time will come when you will say, 'Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!"
In seventy years the Jews were going to be dispersed out of Israel and the temple destroyed, until Israel became a nation again in May of 1948. And many times they must have said these words, like during the holocaust and the Spanish Inquisition. They were also explulsed from other countries.
In the book of Luke 23:34 Jesus said, "Forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
He was talking about the Roman soldiers, not the Jews. He also talks to a prisoner, one crucified next to him. When the prisoner asked Jesus to remember him in heaven, Jesus answers Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
And one day, so will we be.
