CRUCIFIXION part 17
JESUS COMES BACK TO LIFE
Jesus is alive! He will never die again. He did it once, and only once for all time. Going to the book of Hebrews, which is believed to have been written by the apostle Paul,
it is written:chapter 5:7 During his life on earth, Jesus prayed to God, who could save him from death. He prayed and pleaded with loud crying and tears, and he was heard because of his devotion to God. Although Jesus was the Son of God, he learned to be obedient through his sufferings. After he had finished his work (of becoming sin for us and having that sin crucified on the cross forever and ever) he became the source of salvation for everyone who obeys him. God appointed him chief priest in the way Melchizedek was a priest. See Genesis 4:18 and Psalms 110:4
Salvation is for free, but it requires our obedience. Our sovereign LORD calls us through the work of the Holy Spirit and if we respond, we are saved by grace not by works.
Ephesians 2:4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions (sins) it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. In order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
There, that is the will of God for us. Once we are saved we will go onto the good works that God has prepared for us. Sometimes those good works can have as simple a beginning as to repeat the parenting role and undo the harm caused by our blindness when we were living an unsaved and unwise life in sin. Or, children having to relearn the good lessons taught to them by good Christian parents, which they in rebellion disregarded. This are baby steps to be taken in our new life because a new life in Christ is being born again as a baby in the things of Christ and the Spiritual Realm. We learn everything anew, only this time in Christ Jesus. Christ Jesus has us sitted with him in heavenly realms.
What can separate us from him? Romans 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present, nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our LORD.
How can anything or anyone created by God match that promise? That is why dictators who promised much only have the rule of tyranny to enforce their rule because they are merely man made from dust. There have been many of those and many more will come promising everything from world peace to riches to heavenly mansions to good health and yes, even salvation for sell of course. Thank you Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for the Plan of Salvation to save us mere men and women made from dust. Thank You for saving us.
The above are the results of our LORD Christ Jesus coming back to life on that fateful Sunday. This is what Mark records of the happennings of that glorious day.
16:1 When the day of worship was over, Mary from Magdala, Mary (the mother of James) and Salome bought spices to go and anoint Jesus. On Sunday they were going to the tomb very early when the sun had just come up. They said to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" When they looked up they saw that the stone had been rolled away. It was a very large stone. As they went into the tomb, they saw a young man. He was dressed in a white robe and sat on the right side. They were panicstricken. The young men said to them, "Don't panic! you are looking for Jesus from Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been brought back to life. He's not here. Look at the place where they laid him. Go and tell his disciples and Peter that he's going ahead of them to Galilee. There they will see him, just as he told them." They went out of the tomb and ran away. Shock and trembling had overcome them. They didn't say a thing to anyone, because they were afraid.
Matthew adds: chapter 28:9 Suddenly, Jesus met them and greeted them. They went up to him and bowed down to worship him, and took hold of his feet. Then Jesus said to them, "Don't be afraid! Go, tell my followers to go to Galilee. There they will see me."
Luke adds in chapter 24:9 The women left the tomb and went back to the city. They told everything to the eleven apostles and all the others. The women were Mary from Magadala, Joanna, and Mary (the mother of James). There were other women with them. They told the apostles everything. The apostles thought that the women's story didn't make any sense, and they didn't believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. He bent down to look inside and saw only the stripes of linen. Then he went, wondering what had happened.
The book of John records the happenings as such. 20:1-16 Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary from Magdala went to the tomb. She saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb's entrance. So, she ran to Simon Peter and the other disciple, whom Jesus loved. She told them, "They have removed the Lord from the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him." So, Peter and the other disciple headed for the tomb. The two were running side by side, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and came to the tomb first. He bent over and looked inside the tomb. He saw the stripes of linen lying there but didn't go inside. Simon Peter arrived after him and went into the tomb. He saw the stripes of linen lying there. He also saw the cloth that had been on Jesus' head. It wasn't lying with the stripes but was rolled up separately. Then the other disciple who arrived at the tomb first, went inside. He saw and believed. They didn't know yet what Scripture meant when it said that Jesus had to come back to life. So, the disciples went back home. Mary however stood there and cried as she looked at the tomb. As she cried, she bent over and looked inside. She saw two angels in white clothes. They were sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying. One angel was where Jesus' head had been, and the other was where his feet had been. The angels asked her why she was crying? Mary told them, "They have removed my Lord, and I don't know where they've put him." After she said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there. However, she did not know it was Jesus. Jesus asked her, "Why are you crying? Who are you looking for?" Mary thought it was the gardener speaking to her. So she said to him, "Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will remove him." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" Mary turned around and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (this word means "teacher.") Jesus said to her, "Don't hold on to me. I have not yet gone to the Father. But go to my brothers and sisters and tell them, 'I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' " Mary from Magdala went to the disciples and told them, "I have seen the LORD." She told them what he had said to her.
Whom is forgiven much, much will he or she love Jesus. Mary Magdalene, who is Mary from Magdala, had been under the control of demons and other evils. So she was absolutely grateful to Jesus for his delivering her from all this evil. So she hung back when the men disciples took off. She truly wanted to complete her mission of anointing the body of Christ with the herbs and oils that was the custom then. She is a truly fascinating woman for not giving up. And her persistence in the pursuit of her mission was truly rewarded by Jesus. He showed himself to her first before anyone else. We cannot, anyone of us, ever claim that reward because the occasion will never be repeated. The men did not have a focus on that goal, perhaps, because the anointing of dead bodies was one more unclean and unsavory job left to the women only. Mary of Magdala, you are number one.
