IMAGE OF GOLD
Nabuchanazzar did not have money problems such as we see giving grief to many nations all over the world at the moment. He decides he is making a monument of himself, and he does. Of Gold even. That is beyond wealthy and or rich.. This is a dictator that can pick your pockets anytime he wishes without even a "pardon me."
Daniel 3:1 King Nebuchadnazzar made an image of gold, ninety feet high and nine feet wide, and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.
It is interesting to note that the number 9 in the Bible means rebellion of man or disobedience, or in other words, lack of respect for God and his commands. One command of God's is "Ye shall make you no idols nor graven images, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: For I am the LORD your God." Levitcus 26:1
Daniel :3:2 Then Nebuchadnazzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnazzar the king had set up.
They all came about and stood before the image Nabuchadnezzar had set up. Their necks must have hurt craning to see up. The sunlight against the gold must have tried their eyes. The treasurers must have cringed when they thought of the cost. But silence ruled the crowd, until an hearld, a messenger of the king, of course, cried out, at the king's command, no doubt.
Daniel 3:4 Then an hearld cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
A reminder that Nebuchadnezzar was ruler over all known nations, peoples, and languages of the day. Listen up, nations, peoples, and languages.
3:5 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: And whosoever falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
And the people obeyed instantly. No questions asked. Democracy was unknown, disobedience was instantly punished. No one disobeyed Nebuchadnezzar the king. But the command from God to the Jews was "not to worship idols or images of any kind." And the Chaldeans noticed the king's command was not obeyed by one and all. And they ran to the king with this information. And they repeated the king's command in case he had forgotten it.
3:12-14 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendego: these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
Another man who considers himself a global world leader will one day raise up an image of himself. Will it be made of gold. Who knows, but why the frenzied buying of gold nowadays? Rev. 13:14 And decieveth them that dwell on the earth by means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by the sword, and did live. This is the antichrist that is wounded in an attempt by someone to kill him, but he lives and has an image made of himself.
The King asked why they were not following orders when Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were brought before him. He also reminded them of the fiery furnace where disobedients would be thrown into. . And they answered truthfully.
3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnazzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
Just the right bitter tonic for Nebuchadnezzar to swallow. He really thought himself a god. But the prophets were fearless.
3:18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast setup.
Even if God did not save them on the spot, they were more willing to die than to serve other gods or to worship the image. That took courage of the best kind. So into the firey furnace they were going.

FIREY FURNACE
Daniel 3:19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Schadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
They were the friends of Daniel who had interpreted the dream of the king's, so they enjoyed some favor from the king. But their insistence to obey God rather than himself filled him with fury. So he ordered the funaced heated 7 times more than normal. What wickedness? (to be cont.) got to pick up geraldo.
