MORE APPEARENCES Matthew 28:16-20 The eleven disciples went to the mountain in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they bowed down in worship, though some had doubts. When Jesus came near, he spoke to them. He said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. So wherever you go, make disciples of all nations: Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to do everything I have commanded you. "And remember that I am always with you until the end of time.
Luke 24:36-46 While they were talking about what happened, Jesus stood among them. he said to them, "Peace be with you!" They were terrified, and thought they were seeing a ghost. He asked them, "Why are you afraid? Why do you have doubts? Look at my hands and feet, and see that it's really me. Touch me, and see for yourselves. Ghosts don't have flesh and bones, but you can see that I do. As he said this he showed them his hands and feet. The disciples were overcome with joy and amazement because this seemed too good to be true. Then Jesus said to them, "Do you have anything to eat?" They gave him a piece of broiled fish. He took it and ate it while they watched him. Then he said to them, "These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you. I told you everything written about me in Moses' Teachings, the Prophets, and the Psalms had to come true." Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. He said to them, "Scripture says that the Messiah would suffer and that he would come back to life on the third day.
He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. Another reference to the sovereignity of God. All of life is under the control of God. He is no respecter of persons. That is, he does with us what he will. We have the choice, to obey or to turn away from him. But all of humanity will have to make this choice one day, except for children and those with the minds of children. It is no surprise to God about the technologial advances we are seeing nowadays. He brought up the men and women that have made this advances. Everything from atom bombs to computers and cell phones. They all serve a purpose in God's plan.
Luke 24:47Scripture also say that by the authority of Jesus people would be told to turn to God and change the way they think and act so that their sins will be forgiven. This would be told to people from all nations, beginning in the city of Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this things.
Then he refers to the Holy Spirit.
Luke 24:49 "I'm sending you what my Father promised. Wait here in the city until you receive power from heaven."
THE ASCENSION
Luke 24: 50 Then Jesus took them to a place near Bethany. There he raised his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken to heaven. The disciples worshiped him and were overjoyed as they went back to Jerusalem. They were always in the temple, where they praised God.
The book of John tell this version 20:19 That Sunday evening, the disciples were together behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jews. Jesus stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you!" When he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were glad to see the LORD. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you." After he had said this he breathed at the disciples and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whenever you forgive sins, they are forgiven. Whenever you don't forgive them, they are not forgiven.
JESUS APPEARS TO THOMAS
JOHN 20:24-30 Thomas, one of the twelve apostles, who was called Didymus, wasn't with them when Jesus came. The other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." Thomas told them, "I refuse to believe unless I see the nail marks in his hands, put my fingers into them, and put my hand into his side. A week later Jesus' disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" Then Jesus said to Thomas, put your finger here, and look at my hands. Take your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting, and believe." Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed! Blessed are those who have not seen, yet have believed." Jesus performed many other miracles that his disciples saw. Those miracles are not written in this book. But this miracles have been written so that you will believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and so that you will have life by believing in him.
DOUBTING THOMAS TESTS JESUS
PETER AND JESUS
PETER GOES FISHING
PETER GOES FISHING
After all the truama of Jesus appearing and disappearing, after having been dead three days, Peter was overwhelmed by the emotional ride. So he goes fishing, much like a modern executive man goes to play golf to relieve stress... It is there that he has a life changing encounter with Jesus. All this time Peter has a bad feeling hanging over him, after all, he has denied Jesus three times before the rooster crowed just as Jesus said he would. He had to feel shame, guilt and dismay at his failure. However Jesus is ready to make us over all the time.
JESUS AND THE MIRACULOUS CATCH OF FISH John 21:1 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Tiberias. It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanel from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. "I'm going out to fish," Simon Peter told them, and they said, "We will go with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
This is because they are fishing on their own strength. Otherwise known as the carnal man devested of spiritual power or dependence on our Lord. We all do that all the time. It is common for us to think we can do it because from babyhood we have been told that. But do what?
John 21:4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, "Friends, haven't you any fish?" "No," they answered. He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
And so it is with us also, once the Lord comes into the picture, as he did here, on his own, without request from the men, they had success and so will we. We can save ourselves a lot of trouble if we ask Our Lord for help from the beginning. We lack confidence in our Lord a lot of times, or we think he is not acting on our behalf. It looks the the enemy is on the winning side instead of us. If he delays, it is because he is preparing things to be just right for us. I have experienced this, and yet, I will still go back to first base and have to learn the lesson all over again. Our Lord has his timing. A mighty hard lesson to learn.
21:7 Then the disciples whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, "It is the Lord," he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards. When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.
When we do God's will, we get rewarded. Yum yum, I can smell the cooking fresh fish and the bread. And he is rady to prepare more rewards with what you have done in his name and his power.
John 21:10 Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you have just caught."
It is going to be and all you can eat buffet. Yum yum!
John 21:11 Simon Peter climbed aboard anddragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." None of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord.
Your breakthrough can come in such a manner. It will be what you have been really desiring in your heart. Their breakthrough was they truly became fishers of men, and once the men are in the net like the fish, the net, Jesus, will not be torn and no men once in Jesus' net will ever be lost. Amen! Amen!
John 21:13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.
