THE FIERY FURNACE
Shadrach, Meshach and Abendego made clear to Nebuchadnezzar that they would not worship or bow before the golden image he had set up in the plains of Dura. Instead, they were willing to be thrown into the fiery furnace, expecting GOD to rescue them, or if He did not, they would rather die than worship idols.
Daniel 3:19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them was changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual,
This is an angry king. To heat up a furnace seven times hotter than usual was on the verge of making the furnace melt. He was angry and thoughtless.
3:20-27 and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. So these men wearing their robes, trousers, turbans, and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. The king's command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soliders who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendego, and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace. Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, "Weren't there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?" They replied, "Certainly, O king." he said, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods" Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, "Shadach, Meshach and Abendego , servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!" So Shadrach, Meshach and Abendego came out of the fire, and the satraps, perfects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; Their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.
So, the three servants of God had been saved by an angel, Perhaps the Angel of the LORD or Jesus before His Incarnation. And they proved to Nebuchadnezzar that their God was able to rescue them, even in an oven that was heated up 7 times the normal!
3:28-30 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, "Praise be to the GOD of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and dified the king's command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own. Therefore, I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the GOD of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way." Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
Amen, amen. Brave men and with a faith of gold. This guys are slaves to Nebuchadnezzar, no matter that they were given promotions. A slave is a slave. But the slaves of those times were given duties according to their abilities. And these three proved they were brave, loyal to their GOD and not afraid to die for their beliefs. And for their GOD. And Nebuchadnezzar got a first hand, ringside seat to witness the power of GOD. And he respected Him. But was he a servant of GOD?
